So to setup a margin, you simply go in to Preferences, select Editor and then Code Style. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future. What that means is that your code will also auto-wrap once you reach your margin. There is one catch though, there is currently no way to separate auto-wrapping between comments and code. Creating a margin in PhpStorm is quite easy to do and you can even set PhpStorm to auto-wrapping against your margin (it will automatically add a new line to your comment once you reach the margin). Is there shortcut to wrap text in quotes or parenthesis Maybe select the text, press some shortcut and it will be wrapped in quotes or parenthesis. The easiest way to know when your comment line has reached 80 characters of text, is to setup a margin. PhpStorm is a lightweight and smart PHP IDE focused on developer productivity that deeply understands your. If the DocBlock itself is indented on the left 20 character positions, the wrap could occur at position 100, but should not extend beyond a total of 120 characters wide. The WordPress guidelines specify that…ĭocBlock text should wrap to the next line after 80 characters of text.

Sublime Text (3) for PHP Developers | MattStauffer.Since we do a lot of WordPress development work and like to keep our code well documented, we follow the WordPress guide lines on how to write our documentation using PHP DocBlock. Here is a list of several blog posts that helped me create this setup: I’m always looking for more features to try out. If you have some favorite Sublime Text plugins or settings, let me know in the comments. Here is what my setup looks like now using the Dracula theme. In the past, I have used the Boxy Theme, but it has since been deprecated in favor of a newer theme. My two favorite color schemes are Dracula and Solarized Dark (provided by default). In the general release of Sublime Text 3, the team added a new theme called Adaptive which will automatically adjust the appearance of the sidebar and tab bar to match the chosen color scheme. All Autocomplete will add auto-complete entries for all the files that you have open, making it easy to reference methods for classes you have open. The Babel plugin adds ES6 and JSX syntax highlighting. GitGutter will show you added and modified lines in the sidebar, making it easy to find new code you have written. Vintageous adds vim keybindings (one of my favorite plugins). The goal is to match the functionality of Vim’s reformat lines ( gq) command and fill. The Wrap to column command wraps selected text or the current line to the column width you’ve configured for the project. DocBlockr will auto-generate doc blocks for your PHP methods, making documentation much easier. It should work with any JetBrains editor based on Intellij IDEA (P圜harm, WebStorm, PHPStorm, RubyMine, etc.). In particular, I really like the Find Use command which will automatically add a use statement at the top of your file for the class name under your cursor. Sublime PHP Companion adds several helpful commands for PHP development. In no particular order, here is a list of all the ones I find most useful. There are so many plugins for Sublime Text, it can be difficult finding the good and helpful ones. Sublime Text supports font ligatures now which makes your code look really clean. It’s a really nice font that has ligatures. It will cause Sublime to highlight the line the cursor is on, making it really easy to find where you are typing. One of my favorite convenience settings is the highlight_line preference. Id much rather have the code wrap and say within 80-100 character line lengths. If you are curious, the blank last line is to make git diffs not appear for adding a return character to the above line when you start adding more code to the file. Often I forget to add an empty line at the end of the file, so the ensure_newline_at_eof_on_save setting will do it for you automatically. The tab settings ensure I’m always using a four space tab for indentation (yes, I prefer spaces to tabs). PSR-2 sets a preferred limit at 80 characters and a soft limit at 120, so I show a vertical line at both lengths to know when I pass the limit. The rulers setting shows a vertical line in your editor as a guide for the line length. I follow the PSR-2 style guide provided by the PHP-FIG so several of these settings have been very helpful in maintaining that style. Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode
